Which version of ‘To Have And To Hold’ was first – LP or Spanish Taster? Which of the two do you prefer and why?
“The L.P. version was recorded first and is possibly one of DM’s darkest tracks. The Spanish Taster is basically Martin’s demo which he insisted on recording as well. Which one do you think I prefer? I don’t think there is a more perfect example of the musical differences between myself and Martin.”
What is your favourite song from ‘Construction Time Again’?‘Shame’ and ‘And Then’.If you think ‘But Not Tonight’ and ‘It’s Called A Heart’ were too pop, what do you think of ‘If You Want’ and ‘Fools’?I think they’re too poppy as well. I don’t like any of my old songs.

During the promotion for ‘Ultra’, I think Martin actually referred to you as a ‘misanthropist’ which according to my dictionary means ‘anti-social, people hating and generally miserable’ – a definition that seems far from accurate considering the amount of time you spend communicating with your fans!Well there’s probably an element of truth in this but ‘misanthropist’ is perhaps a little harsh. I don’t have a huge army of so-called ‘friends’ because I don’t suffer fools gladly and I’m also not so insecure that I need an entourage of sycophants singing my praises all the time. I’m very selective about the people I socialise with. I suspect Martin meant that I was cynical and sarcastic which is pretty much right.*
